Consider Your "Economic Security"
By AARP.org , summary by Bob Skladany

Reimagining America - How America Can Grow Old and Prosper
AARP, the leading advocate for Americans age 50+, has developed a comprehensive and far-reaching "Blueprint" for the future. This ambitious strategic initiative has a goal no less than reframing the way we think about the quality of our lives, our economic security and the prosperity of our country. The report outlines the key points in their Ten Year Social Impact Agenda. The objective of this agenda is to insure "People 50+ will have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable for them and for society as a whole."

For as long as any of us can remember, conventional wisdom has held that retirement security was comprised of the "three-legged stool" of Social Security, traditional pensions and personal savings. As these three legs have weakened or shown signs of cracking, a new view is needed. AARP has proposed the new "four pillars" of economic security - (1) Social Security, (2) pensions and individual savings, (3) health insurance coverage and (4) earnings from continued employment.

It is this last "pillar", retirement jobs, that will permit those age 50+ to improve their economic security while maintaining an active and vibrant role in society. The goal of AARP is to ensure that "Americans age 50+ can remain in the workforce as desired." Their primary goals are to reduce unfair and discriminatory treatment, and to encourage employers to adopt workplace policies and practices providing more and better options to age 50+ workers.

RetirementJobs.com is committed to these goals and, as the leading career site for age 50+ people, is able to make a substantial contribution to improving employment opportunities and the economic well being of age 50+ workers and retirees seeking jobs.
